Frequently Asked Questions

Q:What is the student-teacher ratio?

A: Mostly the ratio is from 1: 3 to 1:15, depending on what kind of classes are selected and what time is chosen. We have peak season from every April to October as the weather on the mountain is nice ( neither too much cold nor hot) so our teachers ( coaches or masters or Shifu's) will be kind of out at elbows. Anyway at non-peak season, we can reach 1:3 ratio.

Q: What things do you provide in student's accommodation room? What articles of daily use should i bring ?

A: In each room,we have private bathroom,we provide all beddings,a kettle which you can boil water to drink, internet cable access;you need to prepare things like bowl(for meals),chopsticks or fork, towel, shampoo, bath wash, toilet paper, soap, etc

Q: What is the age limit to ingress in your school?

A: There is no age limit for the students as long as you can live an independent life based on your own capabilities.

Q: Do you welcome any level for the kung fu training?

A: Yes.

Q: . Is there a similar possibility for the period of my stay that I may be able to visit Taoist temples?

A: Yes. We carry out 1/3 practice in Zi Xiao Palace ( Clouds Heaven Temple) which is five minutes' walk from the school. The Palace is famous of its over-five- hundred-year history and Taoists. You can drop visits to the temple at extra-curriculum time at your disposal. Remember we are on the mountain where has elevation of over 800 meter. For 2/3 training we carry it out within the school at courtyard, on basketball court and terraces.

Q: .Can I learn Wudang external Kung Fu as well as hard nature Chi Kung at the same time?

A: Yes. Anyhow, your Shifu will give you his suggestion of your training content based on your specific circumstances.

Q: Do you have two people sparring also?

A: Not actually. Sometimes we do sparring for fun only. We have kids from Kungfu Demo Team do sparring at a regular basis. Of course they all wear gloves. Students here who have interests also participate.

Q: How many coaches ( Shifu's) do you have at the school?

A: We have 6--10 currently. Pls visit our website and locate sub-menu "Shifu"

A: Yes, you can call the office telephone when you have an emergency from 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM. We offer english language service. We have every Thursday as holiday so don't call the office that day. If you feel you may have to call us at time not within our timetable, pls draft an email or call prior to your emergency call to confirm availability.

Q: Could you please let me know more about the day to day training at the school?

A: We have winter and summer timetables, for example,in summer,in the morning from 7 to 8, we do Tai Chi walk and Ba Duan Jin and Hun Yuan Chuang ( 2 different forms of internal Qi Kung). Breakfast begins at 8 and we come back to training from 9:30 till lunch starting at 12. From 15:30 to 17:30 we will have afternoon training and from 19:00 to 20:00 we have evening class ( usually Taoist meditation, sometimes taoist theory class ). Break time each week will be the afternoon of every Wed. and Thu.

Q: What holidays do you have during a year?

A: We have 3 days off as holidays for Chinese Spring Festival ( the last day of a year and the first 2 days of the new year based on Chinese Calendar). We have 1 day off on October 1st as it's Chinese National Day. We have 1 day off on the very first day of a year based on west calendar. Beside those holidays, we normally do not have more ones. Only under special circumstances, will we have holidays or break days.

Q: What is temperature like in Wudang Mountain (hotest and coldest in Celsius)?

A: For summer hottest 25-32 ℃ and for winter coldest -3 - -5℃. Spring and Autumn are always nice weather except rainy days.

Q: What type of clothing is ideal for training? Are there supply stores in Wudang town that I can buy suitable uniforms and shoes?

A: We recommend you to wear Tai Chi suit which you can buy at our school shop or Wudang downtown. Anyway, as long as you wear loose clothes like sports sweaters which will make you feel comfortable during training, that's fine.

Q: Do you require a deposit in advance for tuition fees?

A: No, we do not require deposit in advance prior to your arrival. You need to pay the fees after you arrive at the school and define your stay time and type of accommodation. For the convenience of wire if necessary, after you have double checked with our office after you arrive, you can wire us by T/T.

Q: Is there internet connection at the Academy?

A: Yes, there are internet cable access and wifi access,10 wireless routers equally dispersed within the school. This means on nice days you can hang out lying on terraces surfing internet on your laptop. Total bandwidth is 10 MB and usually speed goes well.

Q: Given the time restriction of one month stay at your school, what style (empty hand form) would you suggest I study? I  was thinking Tai Chi or Bagua.

A We suggest you take Tai Chi 18 steps as a common option to most people. Anyway, your Shifu will have a discussion with you on what you will learn based on your timetable and basic levels you've already had.

Q: How can I make payment for stay when I am there? Do you accept Visa credit card? Are there bank machines nearby?

A: You can pay tuition by CNY cash or online bank transfer after your arrival. We do not accept credit card. There is ATM at Wudang Town ( Lao Ying), but no any ATM's on the mountain. So you'd better withdraw enough cash before you go up the mountain.

Q: Do I need to buy travel insurance during my stay out of my country?

A: It's recommended very much you do that.
